AFP Board Approves New Format for the Code of Ethical Principles
January 21, 2015
The AFP Board of Directors has approved a new format, including a graphic makeover, for the association’s Code of Ethical Principles and Standards, which members are required to sign ever year as part of their membership.
Jay Love, chair of the Ethics Committee, noted that many members had complained that with the addition of new standards over the years, the one-page code had become difficult to read. “Our goal was to make the ethical standards as easy as possible to read, understand, and remember,” said Love. “And we still wanted to keep it to one printed page.”
The freshened format has larger type, clearer headings and, in some places, simpler language. The Ethical Principles have been incorporated into the Guidelines, but the Standards still have the same numbers and the same meanings. The AFP board approved the graphic facelift at its Fall 2014 meeting.
You will be able to view the new format when you receive your 2015 membership renewal notice, as well as at www.afpnet.org/ethics.
