Sep 8 - Major Gifts Manager
Riverkeeper is New York’s premier water quality advocate. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic organization experiencing significant growth. Over the last four years the organizational budget has grown by 68%, due in large part to its major gifts program. The Major Gifts Manager will be essential to expanding this program and establishing new relationships as we build towards our 50th anniversary in 2016. The Major Gifts Manager will drive the effort to secure gifts at the level of $5,000+, primarily from individuals and family foundations, in order to reach a current annual goal of $1.5 million in major giving. The Manager will develop and implement strategies for identifying major gift prospects, cultivating donors and prospects, and maximizing gifts. The Manager will be primarily responsible for stewardship of Riverkeeper’s major donor portfolio. In addition, the Manger will identify and develop strategies for candidates for the Board of Directors and other leadership opportunities. The Manager will assist with special events, including conception, planning and implementing strategic donor cultivation events and assisting with fundraising and logistics for the annual benefit and other events as needed. ... more >

Coyne concluded that the best means of addressing the situation is to “take away the charitable tax designation—not selectively, based on their ability to dance on the head of a CRA pin, but across the board, outright.” The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) finds this conclusion fundamentally flawed. The charitable tax designation and the tax credit represent a gesture of confidence on the part of the people by way of their elected representatives, an acknowledgement of the effectiveness of nonprofit and community action and a commitment to the longstanding tradition of philanthropy in Canada. ... more >
