“Our board won’t help with raising money. What should we do?”

“How can we get board members more involved with fundraising?”

These questions are often heard when nonprofit leaders gather. Frustration is evident as staff members see the wasted potential of board members underperforming in their fundraising role. Board members pay lip service to their involvement in fundraising but don’t really know how to best help and past experience makes them think of fundraising as “hitting up” their friends.
Many times, the disconnect between staff and board is caused by mismatched expectations, incomplete communication and fear of the unknown. By engaging and equipping board members early in their board service, nonprofit organizations will benefit by seeing increased participation by board members in fundraising, opportunities to connect with new donors and more money raised. Kathy shows us an easy process to take your board from disengaged with fundraising to contributing at their highest level of involvement.
