Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County seeks an Executive Director who will lead the agency to ensure that the mission, strategy, values are carried out through responsible program administration and development of services and resources within the community service area of Orange County, NY.

.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Business Planning & Execution

Develops and drives business planning for the organization within the context of the nationwide strategic direction; driving a collaborative process with Board and Staff. Uses performance metrics and quality indicators to guide operational decision making. 

 

Board Development

Cultivates a strong Board of Directors with the current board, who are willing to lead and contribute to the fund development success of the organization assuring sustainability and growth. Works to assure independent governance oversight, assurance of policies and performance accountability to the Board.  Works with the board to develop resources through grants and fundraisers to sustain program, retains open communication of administrative, technical needs, program revision or improvements, funding opportunities and national directives.

 

Talent Management

Manages day to day operations of the agency in alignment with the policies and of the Board of Directors and the Standards of Practice as an independent affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Attracts hires, retains, and develops staff talent. Promotes a positive work environment operated with openness and integrated planning across the organization to achieve an engaged and high performing staff. Manages all aspects of Human Resource functions in compliance with BBBS of OC Personnel Policies, as well as state and federal laws. 

 

Financial Management & Fund Development

Develops and implements diversified and cost effective fundraising  plans and sound financial management procedures to ensure the agency’s financial stability and growth without adversely affecting other success criteria (organizations mission, quality of service, consumer satisfaction).

Pro-actively ensures that the agency develops and carries out a fund development plan to include a myriad of resources consisting of successful special event fundraisers, development of strong long term relationships with businesses, foundations, funders and individual donors. Coordinates with the Board to develop the annual operating budget, fundraising and grant plans, adhering to budget commitment and constraints. Serves as the primary grant writer, ensuring accurate grant reports and appropriate expenditure of grant funds.  Assures contractual agreements and grant contract compliance.  Consistently monitors expenditures in conjunction with Business Manager and Board Treasurer, safeguarding all assets

 

 Program impact

Ensures that comprehensive marketing strategies are developed to attract and engage and mobilize significant numbers of volunteer mentors. Ensures programmatic excellence and impact is achieved with program benchmark. Assures affirmative, non-discrimination and intentionality compliance for the recruitment of all volunteers and clients. Ensures all program activities comply with agency and national standards of procedures for child safety and quality assurance.  Supports program staff to plans, executes additional programming and match activities.

 

Data Management & Quality Assurance 

Oversees completion of accurate program statistical grant reports and program reports to the Board of Directors consistently and as needed.

 

Ambassador and Spokesperson

Represents Big Brothers Big Sisters, its goals and mission effectively at meetings, events and with the media. Positively influences partners, media, social media, and public policies to generate volunteers, donors and funding resources.  Develops and maintains a positive presence of the agency through social media outlets.

 

Qualifications  

  • Bachelors degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • Experience as a leader of an organization with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in creating and implementing sustained growth strategies in a non-profit or corporate

 environment

  • Knowledge of youth development and volunteer management
  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated experience in fund development and board relations
  • Proven leadership, management and team building skills
  • Possesses an entrepreneurial approach to the use of variable resources
  • Must be self motivated, responsible and able to work independently
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and proper vehicle insurance
  • Must pass a background check
