Director of Development

The Garrison Institute is seeking a Director of Development to implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that will increase the Institute’s revenue streams and donor support, build greater public awareness of the Institute’s mission, and strengthen the impact of programs through innovative approaches to networking and knowledge dissemination.  The Director of Development is a member of the senior management team, reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Institute’s Board of Trustees to achieve development goals and objectives.  S/he will ensure a well-coordinated department working with communications and marketing and within the Institute’s overall management and administrative structures.

 

Primary responsibilities will include:  identifying and cultivating donors and prospects; managing fundraising goals to include securing grants and major gifts, overseeing appeals and special events; working closely with the Board of Trustees and ED to build networks and identify funding.  The position will also oversee an annual budget, attend various events within and outside the Institute and oversee a full time development coordinator.

Successful candidates will have a minimum of 10+ years of development experience in increasingly responsible positions in not-for-profit organizations with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; demonstrated success in managing and growing development operations; possess exceptional relationship-building skills and comfort in proactively and effectively building relationships with major donors and foundations; expertise in developing and implementing major gift campaigns, annual appeals, and other fundraising tactics; outstanding written and oral communication skills and proven experience in building and/or improving the systems that lead to fundraising results.    Ideally, our new Director will make creative use of new media technologies to generate interest, support, and participation in the institute’s fundraising goals.
