National Philanthropy Day®—Tell Us YOUR Philanthropic Idol!
September 30, 2014
To help celebrate National Philanthropy Day® (NPD), AFP is asking people to submit short videos about their philanthropic idol (and how their idol inspires them to get involved), with the top five most popular videos earning the submitters $500 each for their favorite charity.
Starting Sept. 10, you can submit short, one-minute “selfie” videos to the NPDLove website (npdlove.com), identifying who your philanthropic is and why your idol motivates you to help others. The idol can be a person (relative, friend, acquaintance, celebrity) or thing (book, movie, poem) or anything else that inspires you to get involved with philanthropy.
Want examples of videos? We got ‘em! Want to submit now? You can! Just go to npdlove.com and follow the instructions. You have until Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Then, starting Friday, Oct. 24, we’ll display all of the video we’ve received, and you can start voting. And yes, you have more than one vote. Read the npdlove.com website for all of the instructions.
Plus, you can share your videos as well as your favorites on Twitter using #npdidol. And don’t forget to visit facebook.com/nationalphilanthropyday.
On National Philanthropy Day®, Nov. 15, we’ll announce the top five videos, and those submitters will have $500 given in their name to their favorite charity. There will also be sixth winner—a staff favorite chosen by the staff at AFP International—which will also earn the submitter $500 to their charity of choice.
“Even with all of the extraordinary NPD events happening around the world, we wanted to create a way that everyone could get involved, and our Philanthropic Idol contest is the perfect way,” said Andrew Watt, FInstF, president and CEO of AFP. “I’m sure we’ll hear some inspiring stories through these videos, and to be able to highlight them is a great way to increase awareness about the importance of giving and volunteering.”
NPD Honorees and AFP’s own Philanthropic Idols
The NPDLove website also has information on AFP’s own Philanthropic Idols—our sixteen finalists for the National Philanthropy Day® Honors. These are the outstanding individuals and organizations that were voted on by chapters for our international awards.
Over the next two months, AFP will be announcing its six honorees that will be honored on NPD at our awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The honorees will be in the following six categories: Philanthropist, Volunteer Fundraiser, Corporation, Foundation and Youth in Philanthropy (Individual and Group).
“We’re very excited to be able to recognize these amazing 16 finalists,” said Watt. “They are truly our philanthropic idols and wonderful role models for people and organizations around the world. Choosing just six to recognize at our NPD event was a difficult choice, and we are looking forward to sharing their stories and inspiration through the fall.”
Find out information about each finalist at npdlove.com. The nomination period for the next round of awards will begin later in the year.
