The Poughkeepsie Farm Project (PFP) is a thriving nonprofit organization that works to ensure a just and sustainable food system in Poughkeepsie, New York and the broader Mid-Hudson Valley region. The PFP operates a 15-acre Certified

Naturally Grown member-supported farm (CSA) on the Vassar College Farm. PFP’s farm yields an average of 200,000 pounds of produce annually and is supported by more than 550 shareholder households. The PFP ensures access to healthy, locally grown food for low-income residents through subsidized CSA shares and the Food Share program, donating an average of 40,000 pounds of the harvest to partner organizations annually. The PFP provides award-winning experiential education to more than 5,000 local youth, college students, future farmers, and residents in areas including healthy food, food justice, community and school gardening, and sustainable agriculture through a robust Education program.

Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for ensuring the PFP’s continued and sustainable growth and development, serving as the organization’s principal fundraiser and ensuring diversity in its revenue streams in support of its mission and vision. The ED is expected to demonstrate leadership and provide support to the board of directors, staff, and core volunteers and cultivate relationships with supporters, members, and partners in the community. The ED will work collaboratively to establish and achieve the strategic direction of the PFP and to enhance the resource development, fiscal, and human resource systems necessary to effectively meet community needs. The ED is expected to spur innovation and support best practices in all facets of operational management and organizational development.

Responsibilities

●  Engage the board and staff in achieving the organization’s strategic priorities and vision.

●  Lead and implement all resource development activities to diversify funding and enhance financial capacity through a variety of revenue generation methods.

●  Provide financial management leadership through the development of annual, program, grant, and capital budgets, and ensure monitoring, reporting, and control processes are executed.

●  Manage, support, and evaluate staff to ensure staff effectiveness and retention.

● Assess current and develop new programming in partnership with staff with a focus on sustainable community-based agriculture, food justice, and the food system.

● Cultivate broad community support and engagement as a spokesperson for the PFP.

● Nurture the PFP’s relationship with Vassar College.

● Champion and strengthen the PFP’s connection with its membership.

Qualifications

● Demonstrated professional achievement in managing the growth and development of a successful nonprofit organization.

● Proven professional experienced in establishing a high-performing fundraising operation that prioritizes meaningful engagement of both institutional and individual donors, standardizing the recurrence and predictability of contributions.

● Strong financial management knowledge and skill in all aspects of budget development, management, and oversight.

● Strength in managing, developing, and nurturing staff and strategic community partnerships.

● Experience in assessment, evaluation, and development of programs and services.

●  Passion for and commitment to the mission of the PFP. Experience in the leadership of food justice and sustainable agricultural organizations is desirable.

Salary

Annual salary is $62,000, plus health and retirement benefits. The PFP board is committed to maintaining a competitive salary as achieved through organizational growth.
